This is my new blog. I have never felt the need to write one before but I have recently been inspired by The Little Book of Hygge so I thought that I would make some adjustments to my life and record it over a year.
Today is International Happiness Day and Nordic countries make up the top three with Denmark coming in at number 2 after being knocked off the top spot this year by Norway. Hygge is the Danish way of living well and it is described as “the absence of anything annoying or emotionally overwhelming; taking pleasure from the presence of gentle, soothing things”.
Hygee is an atmosphere and an experience more that about material things in our lives. It is a feeling of being at home, safe, secure and protected from the world in a place where we can drop our shields from everyday life.
A lot of Hygge involves candles which the Danes burn over 5kg of every year; twice as much as any other country. We are coming into Spring which Hygge does play a part but it really comes into its own in the Winter. I live in Ullapool in the West Highlands which is a truly beautiful place with dramatic mountain and sea scenery. I have a lovely place which looks over the loch which I have done up over the last year. I have to confess that it does not quite feel like home yet and I have figured that using some Hygge influence I can transform the place into my own Nordic paradise.
So this blog will be about my attempts to move my male inspired home into something more fun and homely. This will involve making a lot of interior changes over the year, trying some new foods and recipes, changing my much of my thinking and sharing a bit more with others. I hope to detail all of this in the blog. I hope you like it!
I am offshore at the moment but I will be looking at ways of changing things at home.
I hope you enjoy this...
